Freshkills Park is a public park being built atop a landfill reclamation project on Staten Island. At about 2,200 acres, it will be the largest park developed in New York City since the 19th century. Its construction began in October 2008 and is slated to continue in phases for at least 30 years.
Willowbrook Park is a recreational park in Staten Island's neighborhood of Willowbrook. It is part of the Staten Island Greenbelt. The 164-acre public park provides baseball fields, a playground, and a pond. A carousel was opened in 1999.
